How the Canadian citizenship test works

The official Canadian citizenship test is a 20-question, multiple-choice exam for permanent residents aged 18–54 applying for citizenship. You must answer at least 15 of 20 questions correctly — a passing score of 75%. The test is usually written, takes about 30 minutes, and every question is drawn from the free government study guide, Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship.

Questions cover Canadian history, the system of government and elections, geography, national symbols, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Our free practice tests pull from a bank of 239+ questions across all of these topics, so the more you practice, the more of the material you'll have seen before test day.
